Echeveria ‘Black Knight’ is a striking, dark-colored succulent known for its deep purple to almost black, pointed leaves arranged in a tight rosette. This dramatic plant is perfect for adding contrast to succulent gardens, rock landscapes, and indoor collections.
- Size: Grows up to 6 inches (15 cm) tall and 5 inches (13 cm) wide.
- Hardiness: USDA zones 9–11. Can tolerate temperatures as low as 25°F (-4°C) but should be protected from frost.
- Light: Requires bright, indirect light to full sun. More sunlight enhances its dark coloration. Indoors, place near a south- or west-facing window.
- Soil: Prefers well-draining, sandy soil or a cactus/succulent mix. Adding perlite or pumice improves drainage.
- Watering: Use the "soak and dry" method—water deeply but allow soil to dry completely between waterings. Reduce watering to once a month in winter.
- Temperature: Ideal range is 60–80°F (16–27°C). Avoid prolonged exposure to freezing temperatures.
- Repotting: Repot every 2–3 years, preferably in spring, if the plant outgrows its container. Use a pot with drainage holes.
- Indoor Care: Ensure proper air circulation and bright light to prevent etiolation (stretching).
- Outdoor Care: If growing outdoors, provide morning sun and afternoon shade in extreme heat to prevent scorching.
- Maintenance: Remove dead leaves from the base to prevent rot. Propagates easily from leaf cuttings or offsets.
- Fertilizing: Feed with a diluted cactus fertilizer once a month during the growing season (spring and summer).
