Gasteria 'Lawyer's Tongue' is a unique and hardy succulent known for its thick, fleshy, tongue-shaped leaves arranged in a rosette or fan shape. The leaves are dark green with a mottled pattern of lighter green or white spots, giving the plant a striking, textured appearance. As the plant matures, it may produce long flower stalks with tubular, bell-shaped flowers in shades of pink and orange, adding charm to its ornamental appeal. Its slow growth and compact size make it a popular choice for small spaces and indoor gardening.
- Size: Grows up to 6–12 inches (15–30 cm) tall and wide.
- Hardiness: Tolerates temperatures as low as 25°F (-4°C). USDA hardiness zones 9–11.
- Light: Thrives in bright, indirect sunlight but can tolerate partial shade. Indoors, place near an east- or north-facing window.
- Soil: Prefers well-draining soil, such as a cactus or succulent mix, to prevent root rot.
- Watering: Use the "soak and dry" method—allow the soil to dry completely between waterings. Water sparingly during the winter dormant period.
- Temperature: Best grown in temperatures between 60–85°F (16–29°C). Protect from frost and prolonged cold exposure.
- Repotting: Repot every 2–3 years or when the plant outgrows its container, preferably in spring or early summer.
Care Tips:
- Indoor Care: Provide bright, filtered light and ensure the pot has proper drainage to avoid overwatering.
- Outdoor Care: In warmer climates, grow in a shaded area with morning sunlight and protection from intense afternoon heat.
- Maintenance: Remove dead or damaged leaves to maintain the plant's appearance. Fertilize lightly during the growing season with a diluted succulent fertilizer. Propagate through offsets or leaf cuttings.
