The Vinca Pacifica Series offers a stunning selection of heat- and drought-tolerant flowering plants, perfect for gardens, containers, or landscape beds. Known for their vibrant, oversized blooms and glossy green foliage, these plants bring a tropical feel to any setting. Available in a wide range of colors, including bright pinks, deep reds, pure whites, and soft lavenders, the Pacifica series blooms profusely from late spring through the first frost.

These annual vincas (Catharanthus roseus) are ideal for full sun and thrive in tough conditions, including poor soil and high temperatures. Their low-maintenance nature makes them a favorite among gardeners who seek beauty without the hassle.

How to Grow Vinca Pacifica Series

1. Choosing a Location:

  • Sunlight: Select a spot with full sun for best flowering performance. Partial shade is acceptable but may reduce blooming.
  • Soil: Ensure well-draining soil. Vinca plants are tolerant of poor soil but will perform best in moderately fertile, slightly acidic soil (pH 6.0–6.5).

2. Planting:

  • Timing: Plant after all danger of frost has passed, as vinca is sensitive to cold temperatures.
  • Spacing: Space plants 8–12 inches apart to allow for proper air circulation and growth.
  • Method: Dig a hole slightly larger than the plant's root ball, place the plant in, and backfill with soil. Water thoroughly after planting.

3. Care Instructions:

  • Watering: Water regularly until established (about 2–3 weeks). Afterward, water only when the soil feels dry to the touch. Avoid overwatering, as vinca is prone to root rot.
  • Fertilizing: Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer at planting and every 4–6 weeks during the growing season for continuous blooms.
  • Mulching: Add a 1–2 inch layer of mulch to retain soil moisture and suppress weeds.

4. Maintenance:

  • Deadheading: Not necessary, as vinca is self-cleaning and drops its spent flowers.
  • Pruning: Trim back leggy growth to encourage bushiness and more blooms.
  • Pests/Disease: Keep an eye out for aphids or fungal diseases. Ensure proper spacing and avoid overhead watering to minimize risks.

5. Overwintering:

  • As an annual in most climates, vinca will not survive frost. However, in warmer zones (9–11), it may act as a perennial. For colder regions, replant annually or grow indoors in pots.

With these care tips, the Vinca Pacifica series will reward you with resilient beauty and continuous blooms throughout the season!
