The Impatiens Beacon Series is a vibrant, easy-to-grow collection of shade-loving annuals that bring life to gardens, patios, and landscapes. Known for their remarkable resilience against downy mildew, these plants thrive in environments where traditional impatiens struggle. With a wide range of colors, including red, white, pink, orange, and lavender, the Beacon Series offers continuous, brilliant blooms from spring through frost.
Perfect for flower beds, containers, and hanging baskets, these low-maintenance plants create lush displays in shady to partially sunny areas. Their compact, mounding habit ensures a neat appearance, making them ideal for mass plantings or as border accents.
How to Grow Impatiens Beacon Series
-
Planting Location:
- Choose a spot with partial to full shade, although they can tolerate some morning sunlight.
- Ensure the soil is rich, well-draining, and retains moisture.
-
Soil Preparation:
- Enrich the soil with organic matter such as compost or well-rotted manure before planting.
- Aim for a slightly acidic to neutral pH (6.0–7.0).
-
Planting Time:
- Plant after the last frost date in your area when the soil temperature is consistently warm.
-
Spacing:
- Space plants about 8–12 inches apart to allow for proper airflow and growth.
-
Watering:
- Water regularly to keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged.
- Early morning watering helps prevent fungal issues and keeps the plants hydrated throughout the day.
-
Fertilizing:
- Use a balanced, slow-release fertilizer at planting time.
- Supplement with a liquid fertilizer every 2–3 weeks during the growing season for continuous blooming.
-
Maintenance:
- Pinch back early blooms to encourage bushier growth.
- Deadheading is not required, as the plants self-clean by dropping spent blooms.
-
Pest and Disease Control:
- Monitor for pests like aphids or spider mites and treat with insecticidal soap if necessary.
- Avoid overwatering and ensure good air circulation to minimize disease risk.
-
Winter Care:
- In colder climates, treat the Beacon Series as annuals. They cannot survive frost and will need to be replanted each year.
With proper care, the Impatiens Beacon Series will reward you with a spectacular and long-lasting display of color, brightening even the shadiest corners of your garden.
