Haworthia enon, a compact and attractive succulent, is a species within the Haworthia genus, prized for its unique rosette-forming growth habit and intriguing leaf patterns. Known for its ease of care and striking appearance, this plant is perfect for both indoor and outdoor collections. Its leaves are fleshy, typically green with translucent or patterned windows on the upper surface, allowing light to penetrate deeper into the plant tissue.
- Size: Grows up to 3–5 inches (8–12 cm) tall and 4–6 inches (10–15 cm) wide.
- Hardiness: Tolerates temperatures down to 30°F (-1°C). USDA hardiness zones 9–11.
- Light: Prefers bright, indirect sunlight. Can tolerate partial shade but avoid direct, harsh sunlight, which may cause leaf burn.
- Soil: Thrives in well-draining, sandy soil, such as a cactus or succulent mix.
- Watering: Use the "soak and dry" method—water thoroughly and allow the soil to dry completely between waterings. Reduce watering during the dormant winter months.
- Temperature: Ideal range is 60–80°F (15–27°C). Protect from frost and prolonged exposure to cold temperatures.
- Repotting: Repot every 2–3 years in spring or early summer to refresh the soil and prevent overcrowding.
Care Tips:
- Indoor Care: Place near a window with filtered light, such as an east- or west-facing window. Avoid overwatering to prevent root rot.
- Outdoor Care: In warm climates, plant in a shaded area that receives dappled sunlight. Protect from heavy rain and cold snaps.
- Maintenance: Remove offsets (pups) from the base for propagation or to maintain the plant's size. Fertilize sparingly with a cactus fertilizer during the growing season.
